The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) has just appointed its first ever Australian as President.

Craig Lardner will take up the role at the start of November. He has held senior procurement roles at foremost organisations such as the BOC Group – the multinational industrial gas company known as BOC, and now a part of The Linde Group – and Australasian company George Weston Foods – part of the ABF group.

He has vast experience in the procurement profession and will become the second international CIPS President when he takes over from current President, Paula Gildert, on November 1.

Lardner is Principal of his own consultancy firm, Procurement Advisory Services Ltd., and up to August this year was combining that with the role of interim managing director of CIPS Australasia.

Speaking to CIPS' official website, Supply Chain Management, Lardner says he was keen to repay the faith shown in him by his peers and CIPS.

“I think I can make a difference,” he said.

“I have been in and around this profession just long enough to know what we are really good at and what we are not so good at. And I can focus on a couple of things in 12 short months and hopefully make those improvements sustainable.”
